Taiwan’s president and chairman of the ruling KMT nationalist Party, Ma Ying-jeou, is expected to step down as KMT chairman on Wednesday, reports the Straits Times, thus accepting responsiblities for a disastrous defeat of his party in local elections last Saturday.
Ma has led the KMT since 2009, and has been president since 2008. His current second term in office ends in 2016.
