June 4 Tian An Men Crackdown, 23rd Anniversary

Twenty-three years ago, Chinese troops put a bloody end to what has often been described as a popular movement, a students’ movement, or both. Here is a take on how it started. People began converging late Monday on a downtown park in Hong Kong [Victoria Park] for a candlelight vigil commemorating the Tiananmen Square crackdown, reports the New York Times.
