Dumbing Down

Earlier this month, secondary school students reportedly tore their schoolbooks into pieces and threw the litter down to the courtyard from their several-storey building, apparently somewhere in Southern China, after their college entrance examination. The Southern Metropolis Daily reader who contributed the photo story adds the line to it that

Since ancient times, sages have encouraged the love for books, but the young are having fun in tearing the books, which is remarkable.
