Indian Summer in Northern Germany

This was a reasonable summer, with maybe a dozen really hot days, many warm days, too little rain until May and the normal share of it from June until now. It is still almost warm at daytime, around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius on some days, but when I passed the Beck’s Brewery in Bremen this morning at 5:20 a.m., temperature was only 10 degrees Celsius. I biked along the Weser River, watching the position lights of the coasters going into the opposite direction, towards the North Sea.

It was dark, of course. As daylight saving time during summer means that we put our clocks one hour ahead in March every year, they are two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time now. In October, we will go back to only one hour ahead of GMT.

That’s the only thing that I like about fall – from one day to another, we will regain one hour’s worth of daylight in the morning. As for the evenings, I don’t care anyway. I’d prefer Central European time as from October to March all through the year.

OK, there’s one more thing that I like about fall – the colors of the sky. There are bigger clouds of many different shades now, sometimes impressive formations of them, and the colors of the city are becoming stronger, too.
