The media kept telling us that we wouldn’t see a white christmas anymore, or rarely. It was pretty white this year. And Northern Europe is still “frozen”. At least nine homeless men in Germany between 42 and 62 years of age have died as a result, reports the BBC. Some schools in Northern Germany remained closed today, and may not re-open on Friday either.
But this should have counted as a normal winter one or two decades ago. As far as I can tell, we are simply ill-prepared for the season. We are running short on road salt, too.
The American Midwest reportedly expects “brutal temperatures”, at least sixty people died from a cold spell in India during the weekend, and Beijing has reportedly seen more snow (but no exceptionally brutal temperatures) than in decades. This may be in line with a general trend on the Northern hemisphere, or a local overdose resulting from “cloud seeding”.
