  1. He’s a more patient and peaceful man than I am, and all credit to him for being so. I don’t think being peaceful and patient with the Chinese will ever work out, but hey, wouldn’t it be nice to be wrong about that?

  2. Apparently, the Dalai Lama doesn’t believe in hopeless situations. It’s really hard to say what Chinese people would think of the Dalai Lama if he got free speech in Chinese universities (and an audience that listens first and ask questions next). I can’t think of a development now that would lead to that – but who knows?
